How to Celebrate?

Well, Hannah's 3rd birthday is less than a week away. Sadly, she is far too many miles away, still living in an orphanage.
So, I'm wondering, how to celebrate? Luckily the evening of her birthday I will be at a Bible Study with a group of dear friends - so I'm half tempted to plan a bit of a party? Any ideas out there? Any families who have had to celebrate a birthday without their child being physically present?
Please leave a comment - I am feeling really blue and could use some input....

Birthdays are hard. We missed our little guy's first birthday last January. It was a pretty quiet day with tears shed. No party. No dessert. Just lots and lots of prayers said. My suggestions - a yummy piece of cake with ice cream.

You saw our "party" for K. I baked a cake, bought a couple of presents and we sang, prayed, cried and laughed a little. Oh, and E blew out her candle about 6 times. (Perhaps Syd can help with that). I know this is really hard - we'll be thinking of you and Hannah.

My husband and I missed our baby's first birthday in December. It was a sad day but we had my family over for dinner, I baked a cake and put a candle in it. We video taped us singing Happy Birthday and we prayed for our child out loud to capture it on tape so our little one will know we celebrated that special day even though we weren't together. I would suggest letting those who are close to you know how much it hurts to have your hearts desire so far away so they can lift you in prayer and your child in prayer. We also had sent our baby a gift in the mail (it was back when that was allowed) to learn that it had gotten lost in the mail...and then learn about a month later that it was received the day before birthday #1 when I called the post office to file an insurance claim on the package. God has a way of working things out. I wrote how birthday #1 was celebrated in our little one's baby book and the gifts that were sent. Our giant obstacles are not giant to him. Keep your faith, pray and live for our Lord. He'll do the rest! Sending a hug from me a fellow sister who knows the pain of loving so deeply and who is constantly learning to trust our savior father and creator. He love us. Praying with you..Melissa
